I'd seen this flick previously but when the opportunity presented itself (via Channel 4) to catch it in crystal clear high definition I couldn't resist (I must confess that in recent months I have turned into a little bit of a HD junkie).
Unquestionably a great, great movie it is admittedly a very frustrating one as well, everything in this dramatic thriller is pretty much note perfect and appears to be building towards an inevitable confrontation between two of the lead characters and then...it just ends.
Not too long ago I watched the Coen Brothers 'A Serious Man' which has, like this one, an irritatingly abrupt ending but at least in that movie it was clearly their intention to end the movie in an unsatisfactory manner. In the case of 'No Country For Old Men' I'm not so sure that was the case & that possibly, for whatever reason, the end of this movie just didn't resonate with this particular viewer.
It's a pity really as this could easily have been my favourite Coen Brothers movie thus far but as things stands (and although it's still a very decent movie indeed) it falls short of the standards set by 'Miller's Crossing', 'Fargo' & 'The Big Lebowski'.
Razorback Rating = Very Decent
