Quarantine

Although I rate 'Rec' very highly indeed, I don't actually have an issue with classic movies being remade if they're (a) remade well , (b) open the story up to a wider audience & (c) something new is brought to the table.

'Quarantine' ticks the second & third boxes but unfortunately drops the ball on the first. It's not that they've done a particularly terrible job of remaking the original flick, it's just considering the quality of the material that they had to work with, this really should have been sooooooooo much better than it actually was.

Generally speaking, pretty much every aspect of 'Quarantine' only ever manages to be equal to or less than the original movie, it never ever manages to exceed anything in 'Rec'. However, the biggest crime the makers of this movie end up committing is their decision to change the actual cause of the 'infection'. Admittedly in their version it's a more realistic explanation than the one given previously but it's also a hell of a lot less shocking & significantly reduces the sting contained in the original's tail.

For anyone that hasn't seen the original flick & doesn't like movies with subtitles then this is probably worth your time but for anyone else this really can only be viewed as nothing more than a cinematic oddity.

Razorback Rating = Decent Enough

  1. I've not seen the original but thought this version actually looked pretty decent. Sounds like the one they remade is the one to watch though.

  2. The original really is a superb movie so as long as subtitles aren't a problem then that's unquestionably the way to go...

This blog represents an ongoing list of flicks watched by my good self. Every movie viewed will be awarded one of seven ratings ('Unmissable', 'Superb', 'Very Decent', 'Decent', 'Decent Enough', 'Watchable' & finally 'Worthless') and any flick that falls under one of the first three ratings categories will also be awarded 'Razorsharp' status (which means it's pretty much a 'must see' movie in my not so humble opinion).
