I first became aware of this movie during my teenage years but at that time it was virtually impossible for me to actually see it due to Warner Brothers granting Stanley Kubrick's request to have it withdrawn from distribution in the UK. However, once technological advancements had made the localised banning of movies a virtually redundant process, I finally had the opportunity (via a region 1 dvd & multi-region dvd player) to find out exactly why this flick was originally viewed by so many people as such a controversial & potentially dangerous piece of work.
Have to say that I was very, very impressed with this movie the first time I saw it & that hasn't in any way changed following subsequent viewings. Malcolm McDowell is quite simply mesmerising as 'Alex' and the combination of Kubrick's direction with an unquestionably sublime soundtrack really does elevate this flick into becoming something rather special indeed. Although in some ways it does now look a little bit dated there's still something that's visually quite unique about this movie which certainly sets it apart (in a good way) from other flicks that were made during the same period.
In summary, this really is a classic sci-fi flavoured dramatic thriller and one that neither celebrates or shies away from the more violent aspects of mankind's base instincts.
Razorback Rating = Superb
