Inception (Razorsharp)

I'm of the opinion that 2010 represented a pretty poor year for movies, it's certainly been quite some time since I've felt such disinterest in the majority of flicks being released each & every week and although I'm pretty sure that at a later date I'll discover more than a few hidden gems that came out during the last twelve months, I truly doubt that they'll manage to change my current point of view.

However, it should be said that there were at least one or two releases that still managed to 'rock my world' and this particular movie represented the best of an unusually small bunch.

From the reviews & opinions that I've seen, this flick really does seem to be the cinematic equivalent of marmite. There are those that view it as being that rarest of beasts, an 'intelligent' mainstream movie, and then there are others that think it flatters to deceive and that it's not any where near as intellectually challenging as it would have us believe. Personally, I think that when you strip away all of the special effects, action sequences & techno babble this is a flick which explores a relatively simple concept...how would you really know that you were still dreaming if you awoke from a dream within a dream?

It was this particular aspect of 'Inception' that well & truly caught my imagination and I have to admit that when I originally saw this movie, on the 'big screen', that for quite a few hours afterwards reality seemed significantly less...'real' than it had before. Although revisiting this flick on blu-ray recently didn't quite have the same effect on me as it did the first time around, it didn't in any way diminish the enjoyment factor and I believe that at some point in the future this is a movie that will be regarded as a classic of it's particular genre.

Final thought, there was originally some debate on whether this flick ended on a positive or negative note and although Christopher Nolan subsequently confirmed that it was in fact the former, I have to say that after viewing this movie for a second time I find myself believing the absolute opposite.

Razorback Rating = Superb

The why...

This blog represents an ongoing list of flicks watched by my good self. Every movie viewed will be awarded one of seven ratings ('Unmissable', 'Superb', 'Very Decent', 'Decent', 'Decent Enough', 'Watchable' & finally 'Worthless') and any flick that falls under one of the first three ratings categories will also be awarded 'Razorsharp' status (which means it's pretty much a 'must see' movie in my not so humble opinion).
