Green Zone

The reviews that I'd encountered before catching this movie were pretty mixed to say the least, so I went into this without having any real expectations.

The most consistent criticism that had been levelled against it was that the hand held camera work made it impossible at times to see what was going on but to be honest I didn't think it was any worse than any other flick that's been filmed in the same way. It certainly didn't get in the way of me thoroughly enjoying this movie.

Matt Damon puts in a pretty decent performance as a man becoming increasingly frustrated with his failure to locate weapons of mass destruction (and certainly does enough to make his character distinguishable from that of Jason Bourne) as does his team of soldiers, many of which are veterans of the Iraq war, all of which adds a degree of realism that admittedly I wasn't expecting.

This is a thriller that displays a very strong desire to increase awareness that there's a real possibility that the invasion took place because financial rather than moral reasons and just because it chooses to deliver that message within an action flavoured environment doesn't mean that it carries any less weight.

The why...

This blog represents an ongoing list of flicks watched by my good self. Every movie viewed will be awarded one of seven ratings ('Unmissable', 'Superb', 'Very Decent', 'Decent', 'Decent Enough', 'Watchable' & finally 'Worthless') and any flick that falls under one of the first three ratings categories will also be awarded 'Razorsharp' status (which means it's pretty much a 'must see' movie in my not so humble opinion).
